Squares

Lymphedema on the right hand post breast cancer makes using the hand hard sometimes.  I've been dealing with a lot of pain in my legs and especially my hand.  I know people were asking for some close up pictures of the squares.  You can see the scarf on my at 4/18/14  post......Knittalk scarf for me.  You can see why my hand isn't cooperating here......by tapping on the picture.

Butterfly for Presley

This is my first attempt at a crocheted butterfly.  Next one I make will have some changes but the prototype was cute enough to make into a barrette for Presley.  Quick project.

A beautiful, and I mean absolutely beautiful, scarf came in a box with a return address of Yorktown Heights, NY.  I was ready to add my square and send it on to the next name on the list.  I didn't see the list and my husband said, there are cards, should I open them?  I read the card and It hit me, the scarf was for me!  Chemo brain strikes again.  I had even asked Afton what size to make my square so I could have it ready to sew on

Vickie used vintage New Brunswich yarn in a pretty rust color.  She followed the pattern as written.

I got my mom in on the scarflet action.  She's not a group member but at 81 she is still a great knitter.

Nancy's Colorful Colorway

Nancy Blanchong made the scarflet in Red Heart Supersavers primary Colorway.  I have to say Nancy has great taste in colors because I picked this and had one halfway done before Nancy's picture

came.

Kathleen's scarves

Kathleen Day has been busy making scarflets.  Her first was in blue which followed the pattern for the design and made it 33" in length.  For the other two she did what I was hoping we would do and added her own touch. The second blue scarf (below) has bobbles at the end sections and I really like what she did with the midldle scarf with very pretty stitch pattern in a lavender then the body of the scarflet in purple.  What a great way to knit a fun but involved stitch.  You only need to knit a few inches in the fancy stitch pattern (the kind you aren't going to work on with your knit group chatting in the background) and then get to move on to the k2,p2 section which most of us could knit in our sleep.loli

How to find the pattern.....
The pattern is on a website called Suzie's Stuff.  Suzetta knows we are doing this and is anxious to see our pictures.  You'll want to page through the website when you have time.  She has very nice knit and crochet patterns.  She took the five hour baby sweater and converted it into the seven hour toddler sweater which is a project I have knit several times and if you go to the boys version you will see my little grandson at two in a camo yarn just before we found out he needed glasses.

VERY EASY SCARFLET

There you will find the picture and the directions.

Suzie uses a size 9 and a 10-1/2 needle and worsted weight yarn. I used an 8 instead of the 9.   Feel free to have fun with the pattern.  Here is the basics.  Be sure to go to Suzie's site to see the picture and check your stash or LYS for inspiration and to check out her other patterns.

With 10.5 needles cast on 26 sts.   Knit 8 rows. (Garter stitch)
With  8 or 9 needles:
         Row 1:  K2, P2 across, end with K2.
         Row 2:  P2, K2 across end with P2.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until scarf is about 31 inches from cast on edge, ending with row 1
Switch back to size 10.5 needles. Knit 8 rows. (Garter Stitch) Bind off and weave in ends.

I really think it will be fun to see what we come up with.  When you are finished with your scarflet, send the picture of it, your name, and where you are from to me at my new email address

The project starts today.......March 17, 2014 and ends June 17, 2014.  That should give us time even if we have other bigger projects going on.  This would make a great car project or project to work on while watching tv or a movie off at your knit group.  Feel free to make more than one.  If you enjoy the pattern.  I don't mind posting!

I know a lot of us are busy.  I also know a lot of us are stuck at home, disabled, retired and not so busy any more.  Some see people all day long.  Others just wait for emails.  Please take the time write to the group and tell us when you have started and what kind of yarn you are using and how it is going.  If you start and rip, tell us about it.  If you come up with any ideas when you see the pattern, write about it.  What I'm trying to say, is write to the list.  There are members who don't have a lot of other contact with the outside world.

Little cards

Funny how life changes.  My knitting blog seems to have a lot less knitting, probably because to be honest knitting hurts.  Somewhere along the way in life I forgot to check off the box the said prefer left in case of breast cancer.  So I dabble now in crochet and papercrafts.  Ergonomic crochet hooks and paper cutters and the Cricut don't hurt.

Last Friday was my birthday and I have such great friends and family that I needed thank you cards.  One of my gifts was the envelope maker.  What a great tool.  Easy enough for even me to use it.  So I made some mini envelopes, designed some mini cards and had a lot of fun.  So much fun that I decided to share the instructions here.

I pulled out a pack of 6 x 6 paper. (All measurements are in inches) The chart on the envelope maker says 6 x 6 paper makes envelopes that are either for 3-1/2 square cards or 3 x 4 cards.  I choose the 3 x 4. Each card takes 2 pieces of the paper. You make the envelope according to the directions on the maker,  Then with my paper cutter, I cut white paper 6 x 4, scored it at 3 and folded.  I rounded the corners which you can do right on the envelope maker.  I cut the colored paper at 3 x 4, folded it in half and taped it to the card.  I stamped the thanks - one of those clear stamps, stamped a flower to match, although you could really use any stamp you wanted, had dh cut out the flower for me, (lymphedema makes scissors hard) and put the flower on with a pop dot.  I used Stickles for the sparkly accent.
