Hat Patterns for Kathy's Hats

Basic Hat For Straight Needles:
 With worsted weight yarn on size 7 or 8 needles, cast on 72 (80) sts.
Work Brim for 1.5-2” in one of the following ways:
  1.  in K1P1 or K2P2 ribbing
  2. in garter stitch (k all rows)
  3. in seed stitch
  4. in stockinette stitch (K1row, P1 row)
Then work in stockinette stitch (K1row, P1 row) until total length is 7 - 8".
Begin decreases:  K6, K2 tog across row. Next row and all even rows Purl.  Next row K5, K2 tog across.  Repeat having one less stitch before K2 tog on each odd row. When you have 8 stitches, cut yarn and weave through remaining stitches and pull tightly. Sew seam.

 Basic hat For Circular Needles:
With worsted weight yarn on size 7 or 8 needles Cast on 72 (80) sts.

Work Brim for 1.5-2” in one of the following stitches:
  1.  in K1P1 or K2P2 ribbing
  2.  in garter stitch (K1row, P1 row)
  3.  in seed stitch
  4.  in stockinette stitch (k all rows)
  Then knit all rounds until piece measures 7 - 8”. Begin decreases by K6, K2 tog. Knit next round.
Continue having 1 less stitch before decreases. Switch to dpns when needed and finish off by drawing yarn through last 8 sts.

Ribbed Hat on straight needles

On Size 7 or 8 needles with Worsted Weight Yarn Cast on 72 (80) stitches.
 Knit 7 (8) inches of K2P2 ribbing.

 Decrease Rows: For the first row, K2tog, P2tog across. Then, knit 3 rows of K1P1 ribbing. 
For the next row K2 tog across row. Purl back across. Then, K2 tog across row.

Cut yarn, leaving about twice the length of the finished hat. Weave the tail back through the stitches on the needle and sew the back seam. Weave in the ends.

 Ribbed Hat - circular 

 With Size 7 or 8 needles and Worsted Weight Yarn Cast on 72 (80) stitches. – Join.

Knit 7 (8) inches of K2P2 ribbing.
Decrease Rows: For the first row, K2tog, P2tog across. Then, knit 3 rows of K1P1 ribbing.
For the next row K2 tog across row. Knit next round. Then, K2 tog across row.
Cut yarn, leaving about twice the length of the finished hat. Weave the tail back through the stitches on the needle and weave in the ends.
